While filing, I came across old personal essays, poetry, and other writings from my school years. It was interesting, going through and reading everything. I’d forgotten about much of it, and was actually surprised I had kept these things for so long. I wish I’d kept everything I’d ever written.
Many, but not all, of the essays I wrote were for Mrs. Baker’s English class in night school. I remember telling my sisters after class that first night that I didn’t think I was going to like Mrs. Ba...
I’ve mentioned recently about the business meetings I hold with myself, and the journal I have for this purpose. Along with my planner and project journals, this meeting journal helps me to get things done! Success cannot happen if you aren’t accomplishing what needs to be done, and the planner and journals I create help me to do just that.
I got the idea for these meetings from Chloe Adlinton, and went with it. I think she had her meeting weekly or bi-weekly, but I am doing mine monthly. I’v...
I have days where I promote in various ways for hours; anywhere from five to eight hours depending on what I am doing. You have to promote a lot in order to create your success. It’s not fun, at least to me, but it is necessary. Because I’m still learning how to promote for success, I do these promotion days at least a few times a month. However, I also take 20 minutes 4 or 5 days a week to promote. These smaller periods of time help me to spread out the promotional tasks. This is a huge help...
Some places on the mountain are haunted by those who lived before. People who died violent deaths, or those who did the killing. Bad things do not only happen to adults on the mountain. Children are not safe either.
Sometimes, a fabled monster turns out to be real.
The darkest of The Camp Series stories, Hidden Camp is also the longest. Will Jessica and her cousins learn the truth about the Boogie Man. About, at least, some of the mysteries of the mountain. Follow along on an adventure of frightening truths.
Each year, in either October or November, I order a new planner. I scour websites looking for the one that I believe will help me get through the coming year. Usually, I am wrong about the planner and most of the year is an unorganized mess. This year, however, I managed to find a great planner that is really working for me! (No one gave me the planner or paid me to say this. I bought it myself and love it!)
Also each year, in November or December, I schedule a planner day. This is an importa...
Welcome to Single Mom Family: Loving Life Together. My name is Shannon, and I am mom to Skye and Zowie, two amazing young adult women. I’m also Memay to a Little Man who stole my heart.
I work as a front desk agent at an inn, I’m a fiction author, and I love to blog and write nonfiction.
It took me a while to come up with the name for this blog, because I wanted the title and tagline to show how I felt about being a single mom while I was raising my daughters.
Simply put, I loved our life tog...
Success is not always easy to obtain, but having the right mindset makes it a bit easier. It’s essential that you stay positive, not take things too seriously, and remember when you’re feeling unmotivated, and like nothing is going right, that it will pass. Take a step back, clear your mind, and then start again.
I know that staying positive is sometimes more difficult than we would like. Things happen throughout the day to stress you out, and you’re not sure whether you are coming or going. ...
We’ve been discussing how scheduling and taking certain types of days off can help with success. I’ve told you about my vacation, personal days, personal retreats, and business retreats. Today I thought we could cover the administrative day.
Some people have these once a week, others once a month or even quarterly. I try to get in half a day once a week, and a whole day monthly. Set yours up in a way that will help you to get necessary things done.
There are specific things I always do on my ...
Willa Cunningham has felt alone in the world most of her life. She's really never fit in anywhere, even in the home she grew up in. Willa has abilities she does not understand that scare those around her and leave her feeling frightened and even more alone, eventually causing her to have to vacate her home and venture out on her own as she tries hard to live a low-key life.
Until she meets The Woman in the Woods, and her whole life changes.
During my vacation from my ‘day job’, I had a couple of personal retreat days, an administration day, and a business retreat day. Each of these types of days are helping me to create my success. Today I want to discuss the business retreat.
Many people think that a retreat involves more than one person – usually a group of some size. But that’s not always the case. My business retreats center around me and my business. If I had a team I’d do a separate retreat with the people in it, but I wou...
Hi there! My name is Shannon and I’m the author of many short stories, including the #CampSeries published on Amazon: Rascal, A Trip to the Outhouse, Auntie’s Boyfriend, and Hidden Camp. I’ve also written My Mother, Don’t go into the Woods Alone, Victims, and The Haunted Dinner Party. I published a number of other stories in 2017, and am publishing more in 2018.
I’ve written since childhood, and truly enjoy creating short stories, novellas, and more. While these stories are often based around...
I’ve mentioned that I recently took a much-needed vacation from my ‘day job’, and that I believe vacations are an essential element when creating success. For the most part, my vacation also rolled over to my writing and online activities – which I will tell you about in a couple of future posts. But for now, I want to talk about the two personal retreat days I took during that vacation. One the first week, and one the second.
Sometimes strange things happen on the mountain, like pets disappearing. Or toys. Or even people. No one knows where they go, just that they are gone. Or, at least, that is what the grownups tell the children.
What if the grownups know more than what they are letting on? What if they know where all the missing things and people are, but just wont say? What if they don't?
After all, it isn't just children the denizens of the dark take. It can be anyone. Even adults who no longer believe.
Jessica and her cousins learn that even adults are not safe on the mountain, after something happens to t
Yesterday was the first day of spring, but you wouldn’t know it with all the snow and cold. I took out the trash this morning and there was no hint of spring in the air or on the ground. Brrrr.
But I know it will be here soon enough. The warmer days. The buds on the trees. The tulips starting to pop up from the ground. Soon.
With the onset of spring, I always start bringing back lighter food choices. I don’t want the heartier meals of fall and as winter much. I’d rather eat more sal...
Once in a while I have a chocolate craving. I find smoothies are a great way to take care of this. Making them thick and adding ice is also a nice treat. Doing so almost makes a smoothie seem like a milkshake.
I use organic ingredients when I can. They really do have superior flavor.
